100th Anniversary

2010 marks the 100th anniversary of the 1910 Los Angeles International Air Meet, which was held at Dominguez Field just down the road from the present LAX. The meet was the first of its kind in the United States, and set many foundations for the development of the giant aerospace industry that subsequently grew in our region. The Flight Path Learning Center Museum choose to celebrate this historic event and the 100 years of aviation in Southern California since, during its annual fund raising Gala at LAX this year. As part of the evening's program, the museum produced a short 15 minute video from the airport's media archives celebrating aviation. With their permission, I was able to upload a portion of that video to this blog. The full version can be seen at the museum, as well as additional information learned about the aviation personalities, the aerospace manufactures and their aircraft, and the airlines depicted in the tribute video.

Below, a salute to 100 years of aviation in Southern California!
