On January 3rd, 1936 Compañía Mexicana de Aviación became the first foreign airline to operate flights to Los Angeles. Since that day, the airline has become the largest airline in Mexico and operates the most flights by a foreign carrier at LAX. The airline offers direct service to seven Mexican destinations from Los Angeles, and hundreds of connecting opportunities to other global destinations, utilizing a fleet of 70 jet aircraft.
This month marks 50 years of continuous jet service to LAX by Mexicana. On July 4th, 1960 Mexicana operated a De Havilland DH-106 Comet 4C to Los Angeles
from Mexico City. Today, the carrier operates multiple modern Airbus A320 series aircraft into LAX, and continues to excel in offering a high standard of service to its passengers, just recently earning the World Travel Award for 'Mexico and & Central America's Leading Airline' in 2009.I sometimes forget about the impact that foreign carriers have played in the success of LAX. As a tribute to all that Mexicana has done for LAX, and to do my part in celebrating its recent milestone, below I offer a look back at just some of the jet aircraft Mexicana has flown to LAX over the years. Here's to another 60 years of MX jets to LAX...
